When the pulp of your teeth becomes diseased, a root canal may be a necessary procedure in order to relieve any dental pain you may have and save the tooth. There is soft tissue within your teeth that contain blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues. If the tooth suffers a trauma or has too much decay, it is possible for this soft tissue, or pulp, to become infected and inflamed. When the pulp is in this state, you can feel a tremendous amount of dental pain because the pressure of the inflammation builds up within the pulp chamber.
It may be recommended that you have root canal therapy. This is a fairly common procedure that involves the dental professionals at Pro Dental Centers removing the diseased pulp from within your tooth and then cleaning the pulp chambers and root canals. After it is cleaned, the tooth is sealed and the root canal procedure is completed. If the infected pulp is not removed, pain and swelling could negatively impact the tooth to the point where it needs to be extracted.
